Accessible Language Essentials

Most service breakdowns are not caused by “bad intent.” They happen when information is hard to access, too dense, full of jargon, or delivered in a way that does not match the client’s needs. This course teaches the core elements of accessible language so staff can communicate with clarity, respect, and consistency.

Client-Fit Communication Choices

Participants learn how to match communication options to real client profiles, including when to use interpreters, plain-language handouts, visuals, and other supports. You will reflect on how to both simplify complex instructions into clear steps, and choose delivery approaches that improve comprehension and reduce client confusion.

Real-World Scenarios

This course follows Romello, a service coordinator working with families, as he learns what works and what does not in real support-service interactions. Through practical workplace scenarios, do’s and don’ts, and short videos and interactive activities, you will analyze decisions, identify risks, and apply better strategies that protect relationships and outcomes.

What you will walk away with - LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  • Identify the four aspects of accessible language—Availability & Options, Simplification, Language Delivery, and Expansive vs. Contractive Language—by matching each aspect to its correct description or example.
  • Select the most appropriate communication option(s) for a given client profile (e.g., interpreter, plain-language handout, visual aid) to support availability & options.
  • Choose the best simplification strategy for a complex instruction (e.g., break into steps, remove extra info, use visuals) to improve clarity.
  • Distinguish effective from ineffective language delivery choices (e.g., font size/amount of text, pacing/volume, tone/pronunciation) and select the adjustment that improves comprehension in a scenario.
  • Identify jargon and acronyms in sample statements and select the clearest plain-language alternative, and recognize likely negative impacts on clients when accessible language is not used.

Don't just take our word for it

See what our students have to say about our courses::

I expected a typical compliance course, but this was actually fun and I learned a lot. The videos were excellent learning tools, and the interactive moments helped the content stick. I am recommending this to our whole team because it is easy to finish and easy to apply.Elena P.

Elena P
Training Manager

I have taken a lot of CEU courses and this was hands down the funnest and most engaging one. The scenarios felt real, the tools were immediately usable, and the videos kept me locked in instead of zoning out. I finished thinking, I can use this on my next call.

Marisa L.
Service Coordinator

This training made getting my 2-hour DSS CEUs genuinely enjoyable. The content was entertaining but still serious where it needed to be, and the takeaways were practical. The best part was how clear the “do this, not that” examples were.

Jordan K.
DSS Administrator

Romello’s storyline hit home. I saw so many “early career” habits in his approach, and it reminded me of how I sounded when I first started out. The course gave me simple language swaps that reduce confusion and make clients feel respected.

Samira N
Social Worker

This was the first CEU course in a long time that felt entertaining and educational at the same time. The examples were realistic, and the delivery tips were a strong reminder that tone and pacing matter as much as the words. I left with tools I can use the same day.

Daniel R
Therapist

The training does a great job showing how small communication choices create big outcomes. It made completing CEUs feel less like a chore and more like real professional development. Romello’s situations were so relatable and the course gave clear best practices we can reinforce across staff.
